Abstract

Bitcoin's emergence has initiated a paradigm shift in the global financial landscape, sparking debate about its feasibility as a global reserve currency. This research critically evaluates whether Bitcoin can address key limitations volatility, scalability, and regulatory uncertainty to fulfil the functions of a traditional reserve asset. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating quantitative data analysis with qualitative policy reviews, to analyze macroeconomic, technological, and institutional adoption factors. Recent developments such as the Lightning Network, Bitcoin ETFs, and regulatory frameworks like the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) legislation are examined for their potential to enhance Bitcoin's viability. By conducting empirical testing and scenario modeling, this research aims to assess Bitcoin's long-term feasibility and offer actionable insights for central banks, financial institutions, and policymakers navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of digital finance.
