The application of person-centered approaches to community programs is illustrated in this chapter in the context of a family support program. Based on the Community Mothers Programme, the ABC 0–2 Years Home Visiting Programme has been developed within communities and delivered collaboratively since 2015 in Dublin’s inner city as part of the Area-Based Childhood (ABC) Programme. More recently, this has evolved to the Community Families Programme. As a universal, prevention and early intervention program, it has supported 600+ parents to care for their own health and well-being and that of their children. Working closely with public health nurses, the program delivers key supports in relation to maternal and child diet, sleep, attachment, parenting and infant development. Participants reflect the diversity of the individual catchment area in terms of culture, accommodation, class, language, and ethnicity, etc. This chapter navigates the program’s evolution, illustrating a commitment to working with stakeholders and creating partnerships with families to support their competencies in creating positive environments for their children and developing self-efficacy.
