The North East Inner City Brighter Futures Initiative aims to empower children and young people in North Inner City Dublin to become actively involved in the decisions that affect their lives and their communities. This participatory action research project shows that by enabling restorative engagements – in a divided, often radicalised, inner city community – mutually respectful and collaborative relationships are cultivated.

Through the use of multimedia and visual aids we will present information on the key findings of the initiative, including:

- Improving self-efficacy, self-esteem and sense of community.
- Educating and nurturing children, young people and adults in the use of restorative practices – to become reflective, critical citizens with an equal voice.
- Supporting after school and youth services in the delivery of positive, high-quality, learning environments, through the provision of professional development in restorative practices alongside supportive peer learning networks.
- Working restoratively to facilitate a series of community circles focusing on key local issues.
- Producing a collaborative report based on a commitment to building relationships and a hopeful future.

Through their involvement, participants developed positive attitudes, dispositions and skills that will support them as they strive for their future life goals.
