Our restorative practice initiative is in the vanguard of what internationally is called ‘a restorative learning region’ or ‘a restorative society approach’, with the vision being that everyone should live in a genuinely restorative society, but what would that look like in practice? This participatory action research (PAR) study assesses the impact of restorative practice training, CPD workshops, alongside support and mentoring, with community members and stakeholders – of all ages – in the Dublin Docklands and North East Inner City. The presentation will explore data from 2015-2018 to assess indicative trends in relation to the impact of a community-wide implementation of restorative practices. Using RP as a positive framework for change in the development of children, young people and their environments – including families, peer groups, schools and communities – is already generating evidence of a shifting societal culture that is committed to building relationships and promoting alternatives to conflict and violence. This research will demonstrate that by enabling restorative engagements mutually respectful and collaborative relationships are cultivated, thus indicating improvements in resilience, community health, conflict resolution, organisational culture and civil society.
