Abstract

Organizations are continuously evaluating their business processes for efficiency, and resilience against best practices. With the advantages of multi-cloud, such as reduced vendor lock in over single cloud, and portability for businesses, disaster recovery implementation, where each cloud provider tools, architecture, hardware virtualization in multi-cloud can be challenging while maximizing security. This research identifies this gap by implementing a reproducible framework that evaluates disaster recovery (DR) strategy across Azure, and AWS cloud integrated with Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmark for standardized security compliance, and audit. The research uses Terraform IaC tool for orchestrating automated provisioning of Variant 1(basic security),and Variant 2(CIS Level 1 hardening) on AWS, and Azure. The conducted experiment measures recovery metrics, security compliance, comparative analysis across clouds. The result demonstrates an almost linear relationship between CIS Security Compliance, and Recovery Time Objective(RTO), and zero security degradation during failover. With the properly documented findings, this research provides a realistic understanding of a valid framework for security-aware multi-cloud DR suitable for organizations, and cloud consumers.
