Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises face an increase in cyberattacks due to high reliance on digital technology and limited security infrastructure. Security Information and Event Management tools are essential for real-time detection and response, yet the commercial solutions are unaffordable or complex to setup for SMEs. In this study, we will evaluate four solutions namely – Wazuh, ELK, Huntress and LimaCharlie on Windows and Ubuntu in virtual environment through simulated attack scenarios. Key metrics such as Mean Time to Detect (MTTD), Mean Time to Respond and CPU/memory usage were used for evaluation. The results showed that Wazuh had performed consistently across both operating systems along with a balance of usability and detection capabilities. This research provides SMEs with practical insights in choosing the right SIEM solution based on performance and environment adaptability.
