Abstract

This project presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a lightweight blockchain framework for secure and verifiable IoT data transactions. Developed in Node.js and deployed on Ubuntu within an Oracle VirtualBox environment, the system records sensor data as immutable blockchain entries, enabling tamper detection and integrity verification. Performance evaluation included baseline throughput and latency measurements, scalability testing, and resource utilization profiling using htop and pidstat. Results show the system achieving an average latency of ~0.0021 seconds under light load, a 100% transaction success rate, and negligible CPU and memory consumption (~0.23% RAM). Security testing successfully identified unauthorized access, tampering, and replay attempts. The findings confirm that the framework can support IoT-scale deployments with minimal resource overhead. Limitations include testing in a controlled network and simplified consensus. Future work will explore large-scale, geo-distributed deployments, lightweight consensus protocols, and integration with real IoT devices for commercial applications.
