Abstract

Focussing on the role of learning support and development in higher education, this book will introduce readers to some of the difficulties associated with implementing inclusive learning and teaching. Presented as a direct response to contemporary education concerns, the work will maintain that every student has the right and the need to access learning materials, and that all students should be offered guidance on how to learn strategically both in isolation and with peers. As a strategy to achieve these student centred principles, the book will document the creation of two initiatives; firstly, the establishment of a virtual support service to combat academic isolation and secondly, the creation of a free learning development resource for all students in higher education. Adopting a living action research approach, this book describes how professional self-reflection and collaborative relationships with students can be used to improve student centeredness.
