Abstract

With the rapid growth of IT services, cloud computing has brought certain serious concerns with it. Some of them can be listed as trust, fault tolerance, prediction, and security. However, a user has to look for a cloud service in every aspect as per their requirements. The cloud computing industry believes in delivering fault-free and trustworthy services to its potential consumers. The dynamic environment of the cloud results in various unexpected faults and failures. In order to achieve robustness and dependability in cloud computing, failure should be assessed and handled effectively. To date, numerous fault prediction models, techniques, and frameworks have been proposed and implemented. This chapter presents a comprehensive overview of fault prediction-related issues in cloud computing, emphasizing the significant concepts, implications, processes involved in prediction, and state-of-the-art techniques and methods. The objective is to provide insights into the existing fault tolerance approaches as well as the challenges yet to be overcome. Also, a framework has been proposed for predicting faults in cloud environments with performance evaluation and validation. The evaluation results also reveal that the proposed framework model has high availability, better throughput, and lesser checkpoint overheads. The result analysis reveals the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
