Abstract

The game industry has changed massively throughout the years from your simple Pong to the arcades to the now huge online gaming community. The evolution of games is not the only thing that’s changing, the attitude is also changing along with it. Some parents see games like junk food, too much is bad. But slowly over time, especially with our increased dependency on technology games are becoming more acceptable. I’ve seen plenty of parents on the trains, buses, airplanes giving a child a tablet, portable game console or a smart phone with a children’s app/games to keep the child occupied on a boring journey to stop them from the familiar phrase “Are we there yet? I’m bored”. And now a day I’m even seeing some children focused companies like Leapfrog releasing their own tablets called LeapPads, Smyths even have a section on their website called “Electronic Learning”. People are starting to realise instead of restricting games let’s make them teach children things.

The concept itself has been around awhile but only lately am I noticing its influx. When I was younger there was a game introduced to help with Maths called Number shark. Of course games aren’t for everyone, but for some it’s a much better way to learn.

With my game I hope to help children learn in more dynamic ways with so much pressure to get our kids to be the brightest they can be I think having fun time with learning is crucial. Final Frontier is a game to introduce children to the realm outside of our planet, to the other rocky planets in our solar system. The game will give the player a glimpse of what it would be like on other planets, and also have an added fun bonus too.
