Abstract

As part of its terms of reference, the National Council for Elderly (now the National Council on Ageing and Older People) was requested to advise the Minister for Health on the implementation of the recommendations of the report The Years Ahead - A Policy for the Elderly. The Years Ahead report was published in 1988 and now, nine years on, the Council in fulfilment of its brief publishes this substantial review of the report. The review was a major undertaking and required contact at many administrative and front-line levels with Government Departments, the eight health boards, a large sample of the local authorities and many other organisations.
